Updated: Mar 5

Welcome to this week's news and views from around the resort.

Great Gatsby Night

What a fabulous night !! Well done to each and every one of you for dressing up for the occasion. Great band - they had us dancing all night long. Wonderful food prepared and served by the caterers. Fantastic cocktails made and served by our very own Park Managers Mark and Nicole, assisted by some of their friends. What a hard working happy bunch of people. Thanks to Vikki, Cath and the rest of the Social Group for laying on the event. And of course a HUGE thank to all the Bar Vollies who kept us all well watered throughout the evening.

Don't miss out on the next Great Gatsby Night

Dux & Drakes News

A big BIG thank you to all our wonderful vollies who not only work tirelessly behind the bar, but also order, fetch and re-stock all the wine, beer and other goodies that can be purchased behind the bar.

If you would like to become involved with the bar and can spare a couple of hours a week, please get in touch with the bar supervisor by completing the below form. This can be dropped into the HOC mail box or scanned and returned to You don't have to work behind the bar to help - you can help with some of the duties needed for re-stocking the bar. All help is greatly appreciated

Getting to know you

This is a new section aimed at putting a face to the many volunteers we have here at GemLife and allowing the community to get to know each other.

Starting off with our very own Line Dancing queen - Lynne Brand. Our roving reporter Debbie Chamberlain met with Lynne this week and delved into her life of Line Dancing.

I asked Lynne what brought her to being GL's Line Dancing guru.

Whilst travelling in their caravan, Lynne would often see in local pubs and clubs line dancing events, she always thought the people looked like they were having a lot of fun, and that appealed to her. After moving home from Godwin Beach to Kilcoy she saw a sign at the local church hall advertising classes and let's say the rest is history, she was hooked.

Her favourite tunes include Old time Rock 'n roll, and Galway Girl, but she admits she loves all types of music and finds you can Line Dance to almost anything, even the Charleston.

Lynne is married to Glen and moved to GL in March 2019. She admits it took her a while to settle in, but now loves living here and has many friends, fantastic neighbours (me) and a great family.

When covid hit and the village went into lock down mode, (gosh seems a long time ago now doesn't it), some of the ladies began grumbling on Face book about having nothing to do. Lynne came up with the idea of out door Line Dancing. She offered to open up her garage door, cranked up the music, whilst participants gathered in the car park opposite to learn their steps, unfortunately, the demand was too high, and the 1st classes were held on the jetty. Due to social distancing, she was only allowed 10 people per class and ended up doing 3 classes per day, 3 times a week. No wonder she keeps trim !!

After covid, Line Dancing moved inside, the secretary at the time offered to find the group a professional teacher, but the residents were adamant they wanted Lynne to stay, her passion for her activity keeps her classes well subscribed with around 35 residents now involved.

Lynne's motto is :

Good Music

adding Line Dancing along with any coordination activity is great for the brain

Every year in May, Lynne undertakes some kind of event, normally in aid of Rural Aid, which is another of her passions. This has included in the past a sponsored Line Dancing marathon, and who could forget last year's Nutbush.

Lynne invites anyone who is interested to come along to one of her beginners classes, and give it a try. Give it around 6 weeks, and you will either know it's not for you, or like some of those who came along to the first classes in 2020 you will be in it for life.

Thanks Lynne for spending time and sharing with the snippet, if you see Lynne out and about don't forget to say hello.

There will be an extra Bingo session on Monday 4 March.

A great turnout on Wednesday for Trivia. Twenty teams took part, equalling our best ever record. A couple of teams returned from their well-earned holidays. We welcomed a new team PEARLY GREATS who managed to avoid the Wooden Spoon by a couple of points. A second appearance by FAMILY AFFAIR saw them finish in a comfortable mid table position. And my gym buddy Bernie was a first timer - he joined the NEWBIES.

I sincerely hope we will see all the new people (and all the regular people) for next week's trivia which Music Special Songs.

Congratulations to the General Knowledge winners Jukeboxers, and to Drifters for winning the Handicap section.

Come along on a Wednesday night - only $1 to take part in the best trivia on Bribie Island. Form your own team, or we will find a team for you.

The talent we have here at GemLife Bribie Island is boundless

The Cool Hand Ukulele Players recently went to the Baptist Church to entertain the congregation. A great day was had by all with folks joining in, singing and dancing along. I can't wait to see our CHUPs performing on Australia's Got Talent.
