Sunday Snippet June 30 2024

Welcome to this week's news and views from around the best resort in Queensland.

The clubhouse was packed to the rafters on Friday - great to see you all there. A huge thanks to Vikki and Cath for the BIG monthly raffle. The lucky winners are on the left.

After the draw we were all treated to a fantastic performance by our very own Singing Gems. The choir will be performing again on Thursday evening, so even if you don't have tickets for Xmas In July, come along and listen to our talented choir perform four Xmas songs.

And a big thank you to Cathy's team for providing us with Cathy's World Famous Pies. The whole team deserve medals for all the hard work they do - preparation, serving and cleaning up. Over 200 pies were served - a new record for GemLife Bribie Island.

Congratulations to Music Special Songs winners Eight Pins. They surged ahead in round three to end up with 147 points - the 3rd highest score in Music Trivia history. Gran Torino won the handicap with 181 points, the 2nd highest Handicap score in Music Trivia history. Peeps On Point easily won the Wooden Spoon.

The next trivia is on Wednesday 3 July - Music Favourites. All the songs will be songs that made it to No 1 in the Canadian pop charts - in celebration of Canada Independence Day.

If you fancy a drink of water from the tap in the bar, please only use the water cups next to the tap. DO NOT use the coffee cups. It's not that difficult folks !!

If you are at a loose end this morning (Sunday), pop along to the Community Arts Centre on Sunderland Drive and snap up a wooden bargain at Bribie Woodies Open Day, and grab yourself a coffee and cake at Cafe 191.

Later on at 3pm in the clubhouse Ellen Lopez will be entertaining you LIVE & FREE.

The ladies in our craft group meet every Monday at 9:30am, and generally make things for family & friends.   However, there is a very special charity group that they especially like to support.    It’s called “Precious Wings”.    They offer love, hope, understanding and support by way of Memory Boxes which are supplied to hospitals across Queensland and are given to families who lose a baby of any gestation.

All residents are welcome to join - you don't have to be a knitter, but it helps if you are a natter.

Ian Morris and his team of helpers are doing a stock take of the DVD library in the cinema this month. It would help them enormously if any borrowed DVDs were returned this week.

VIP Meeting on Tuesday 2 July at 1pm

Desre Arnold, a clinical nurse and Advanced Care Planning Facilitator for Queensland Health will be holding a very important and informative session on Advanced Care Planning. DO NOT MISS THIS SESSION. It could well be a lifesaver.

Would you Adam and Eve it, the Lakeside Cafe will be one year old on Wednesday. Fabulous job ladies and gents.

To celebrate the occasion it will be a Muffin Day - yummy Blueberry Muffins & Apple and Date Muffins. I hear from a reliable source that the muffins have been made without calories !!! Come along on Wednesday morning and enjoy the best coffee on Bribie, the best muffins on Bribie and of course the best service on Bribie. We are so lucky living here.

If you are lucky enough to have a ticket for Thursday's Xmas in July you are in for a treat. Our very own Singing Gems will be performing four Xmas songs. For the unlucky ones (like me) you can still come along and be entertained by our wonderful choir. Wow - we are so fortunate.

Another raffle on Friday - tickets on sale in the clubhouse at 4:30pm. Draw takes place around 5:30pm.

Several residents are raving about the Podiatry service that is now on offer at the resort. Mi Dinh is the podiatrist (from Back In Motion). Call 3408 6608 to make an appointment. Now it does say on the website that the charge for the podiatrist is $1, but clearly that is not the case. I don't know exactly how much is charged, but maybe over the next few weeks we may be able to give a better indication of the actual charge on the website. Meanwhile don't go armed with just a gold coin when you have your little tootsies examined.

One chore that I managed to do this week was to replace the Water Filter Cartridge under the sink in the kitchen. Do have a look at your filter, there should be a replace by date on it. The filters have a life span of around 12 months (more if you don't drink water). Buy a replacement filter online, or get together with a few neighbours and buy in bulk. It took less than a minute to replace the filter - not bad for me. And I didn't make a mess.

Also my thanks to man shed guru John who fixed a leaking pipe joint for me.
