Sunday Snippet July 7 2024

Welcome to this week's news and views from around the best resort in Queensland.

ADVANCE CARE PLANNING

A very informative session took place on Tuesday. Something that we should all do is to complete A Statement of Choices, An Enduring Power of Attorney and An Advance Health Directive. John and Val are hoping to organise a workshop with Desre Arnold to help us all complete these documents. Watch this space.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT TRIVIA

Congratulations to Music Favourite winners Motley Crew. They took an early lead and held off all challengers to win by a single point. Bushrangers had a great third round and won the Handicap trophy. Golden Oldies just managed to win the Wooden Spoon.

The next trivia is on Wednesday 10 July - General Knowledge.

Xmas in July on Thursday was a great success - wonderful meal and fabulous entertainment from our very own Singing Gems.

Many thanks to the Meat Raffle organisers for another Friday night raffle, and thanks to Greg and his helpers for the Friday night entertainment. Greg will be back soon I'm sure - watch this space !!

Ian Morris and his team of helpers are doing a stock take of the DVD library in the cinema this month. It would help them enormously if any borrowed DVDs were returned this week.

Ian also has a message for all the vinyl lovers out there -

I have recently received a considerable number of 12” LPs, mostly classical, from a close friend.  They are the result of a house clean-out and are mostly in lovely condition.

I need to find new owners for these and they will best suit someone with a 33 1/3 record player and a love of classical music.  I realise that people, these days, prefer to stream or to use CDs, but these records are special and definitely for devotees.

I you want to see them, give me a call and we can make a time.

We have a wonderful community here and lots and lots of residents that put their hand up to do unselfish and unpaid work. Please support each and everyone of them. Here is a message from the folks that set out the clubhouse rubbish bins for the Wednesday morning collection.

Hi good people.  No problem with people using the rubbish bins next to the letter boxes at the Club House however, to make life easier for our great volunteers who set out the bins for rubbish collection of a Wednesday, please note the following:

  • Rubbish bins with YELLOW lids – for cardboard and paper etc only

  • BLUE bins with GREEN or RED lids – bottles, cans and recyclable plastics only.  Note that these bins go to the recycling depot and the $$ are shared between the HOC and Lions.

  • Bins with RED Lids – all other rubbish.

Your support is appreciated.

All these good people are doing work on your behalf - please do the right thing and don't make their job more difficult.

Maleny Music Festival 8,9 &10 November.

If you are interested in going to this festival, please get in touch with Rachel Clarke. Her phone number is 0423834646. I think that someone will have to step up and co-ordinate travel to and from Maleny (presumably the two GemLife buses will come into play). Any takers ??? Email gembiweb@gmail.com if you are interested.

And talking of GemLife transport here is a message from the managers

We find regretfully that Home Owners are on occasion taking out the shuttle with no booking, not completing the booking logs, allowing non approved or non-residents to drive (including children), driving in an unsafe and inappropriate manner (over 10KM) and not properly setting the shuttle charge leaving the shuttle uncharged for actual bookings (even though the Conditions and Instructions for use are attached to the shuttle). There are also scrapes and minor damages occurring that are not reported.

We want to keep this facility running, but home owners do need to take some responsibility as with all other facilities and services provided.
